چکیده

The AVHRR compatible vegetation index derived from MERIS full resolution (FR) data is based on top of atmosphere radiances (ESA L2 data). This continuity index is developed using radiative transfer models for simulating the reflectance of the broad spectral channels of the NOAA – AVHRR and the small spectral bands of MERIS. A linear combination of MERIS channels describes each AVHRR channel. The weighting factors are determined from the results of the modelling approach taking into account atmosphere (SMAC), canopy and soil (SAIL) and leaves (SLOP). The continuity index will be available as maximum value composite (daily, 10-days and monthly). The first validation results show good agreement between the AVHRR NDVI and the continuity index.

Intercalibration of vegetation indices from different sensor systems

Spectroradiometric measurements were made over a range of crop canopy densities, soil backgrounds and foliage colour. The reflected spectral radiances were convoluted with the spectral response functions of a range of satellite instruments to simulate their responses. When Normalised Difference Vegetation Indices (NDVI) from the different instruments were compared, they varied by a few percent,...

Modeling Forest Productivity Using Envisat MERIS Data

The aim of this study was to derive land cover products with a 300-m pixelresolution of Envisat MERIS (Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) to quantify netprimary productivity (NPP) of conifer forests of Taurus Mountain range along the EasternMediterranean coast of Turkey. The Carnegie-Ames-Stanford approach (CASA) was usedto predict annual and monthly regional NPP as modified by temperature...

Cross Comparison of Spot-4 Vegetation and Noaa-14 Avhrr

Spectral vegetation indices obtained from satellite sensors have been used to measure and monitor the Earth’s vegetative cover from local, regional, to global scales. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) has been the most widely-used index and shown to correlate with green leaf area index, green biomass, and net primary productivity. The NDVI from the two sensors, National Oceanic ...

Deriving Land Cover Information over Siberia: Comparing Results from MERIS and MODIS

With the availability of space-borne data from medium resolution optical sensors such as MERIS and MODIS, deriving land cover information of large areas is expected to improve considerably. Both, the higher spatial and spectral resolution compared to previously available data from AVHRR seem to be far more suited for detailed mapping of land cover. Within the Siberia-II project (EU contract EVG...

Meris Global Vegetation Index: Evaluation and Performance

This paper overviews the evaluation and the performance of the Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) Global Vegetation Index (MGVI) algorithm which is implemented in the MERIS ground segment as the main land surface product, also called the Top Of Atmosphere Vegetation Index (TOAVI). MGVI values represent the Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR) which act as...
